i bought this spontaneously when i saw it on a shelf at karstadt... it wasn't expensive and i felt like building a boat!
it's pretty small but it's a nice model in my opinion. so here are some photos!

the box

the parts

i was curious how the finished ship would look like so here are two previews of what's to come.
nothing glued, nothing painted yet but it looks nice already!

i wanted to start with something simple, so the obvious choice was the stand...

next came the rust-protection layer on the hull - thanks to the flash it looks a lot redder in this photo than it really is...
oh, and: blu-tack ftw! really helpful stuff.

three little propellers (one is hiding)

after some filing and cutting (mainly into my finger, ouch), these chimney ladders look a lot better than before!
they looked way too bulky before, and the space between the ladder and the chimney was solid plastic for some reason!
not very pretty.

i decided to open up the chimneytops with a hot needle and make them appear hollow with green stuff.
first time i used it, too! worked quite well i think. and i didn't even burn myself!

these look quite nice now.. still have to paint some details and of course attach the ladders but that should be it.

now these are really fiddly things! i haven't decided yet if these will stay like this or will get some darker wooden tone
to their holders. they could use some more colour somehow.

ok, they look a lot less boring now.

i think these are finally finished now. painting those details with a brush was a pain, i should have used a pen instead.

some more paint on the hull... not easy to paint over black with white colour. i think i applied something like 10 layers!

the decks received the first paint now too. i'll need to use my smallest brush to finish all the details.

these tiny details are really hard to work out... looks better than in this photo though...
i guess it's too close and all the small mistakes are showing. grr.
